Four Important Rules of Makeup

Updated: Apr 2, 2020

When it comes to wearing makeup, you can either get it completely right or horribly wrong.

#1 Not to Prime is Always a Crime!

Always use a primer, which helps the foundation to have a smooth surface to settle on. This will result in your makeup to last longer. I always prime prior to putting any foundation on my face. A few years ago priming was a no-go for me. I thought that was the biggest waste of time and money! I finally gave it a try and I’ve been hooked ever since. Priming definitely gives your makeup a better finish. The product you choose does not have to be a pricey one, actually one of my favorite primers is from e.l.f.

#2 Your "10 Minute Face"

In the perfect world, I would have 45 minutes in the mornings just to sit down, sip my coffee and apply makeup. Instead, my mornings are spent getting my children fed a good breakfast, rushing them out the house to catch their bus on time THEN spending the remaining morning time on myself before I am also out the door. On weekends when I have the time, there is nothing I love more than sipping on a tall glass of my favorite wine while applying my winged eyeliner and smoky eye shadow. Even with more time, perfecting the "10 Minute Face" comes in handy. Set a timer, sit back and take notes on my 10 minute face routine.

I use the e.l.f. Tone Adjusting Face Primer. It truly does it all. I pump a few drops onto my cosmetic sponge and apply to my face, starting at the center and working outward. Applying my primer takes approximately 10 seconds!

My absolute favorite foundation is sold at Sally Beauty, it is called Get Flawless 8-in-1 foundation. This makeup is hands down THE BEST option for a flawless application without the cakiness.

I have never been big on contouring my face however, I love to add a good highlight to my cheeks and inner corner of my eyes. For this, I use the Galactic Glow Holographic Palette.

Your eyes are the window to your soul. A good eyeshadow palette is key. Your eyeshadow should stay on in the rain, sweat, and even the heaviest of oily days. I fell in love with the Morphe eyeshadow palette due to the fact it's very pigmented and stays on all day.

My eyebrows have taken me years, I mean YEARS to perfect. I can't even recall how many years I walked around with over-plucked eyebrows (no pencil) that looked invisible from a distance. My favorite eyebrow pencil is from my beauty supply store called Stylist Eyebrow Pencil. I try to fill my brows in naturally. Remember to take your time sis, definitely don't want to rush this process.

Finally, add some eyeliner, mascara and a matte lipstick. You are ready to go in 10 minutes tops.

#3 Signature Lip

I love all shades of red. This color is beloved for its ability to look good on virtually everyone. However a great matte in any shade is indestructible, lasting from morning to night with meals in between. The point is to always have this color with you so no matter where you are, what you have on, it's YOUR signature.

#4 Less is Always More

Makeup can be a beautiful thing! It can highlight your best features and disguise the ones you're less impressed with. But like most things, it should be used sparingly. When it comes to makeup, less is more.

Now, go look amazing.
